Learning & Unlearning with the SFPL

Thank you to the San Francisco Public Library (SFPL) for sponsoring our FREE community classes.

We have two on-going programs:

Embodied Book Club - join one or all! Please join even if you haven’t read or finished the book.

This summer, we’re focusing on Michelle Cassandra Johnson's profound work, Finding Refuge: Heart Work for Healing Collective Grief. This book speaks to practices and rituals to help us heal from the overwhelming grief that seems to be blanketing the world right now.

Sponsored by the San Francisco Public Library. So they are FREE to join.

These are virtual classes - join from anywhere!

What is an Embodied Book Club?

We choose sections of the book, and we read to you. You can listen and rest, read along, do some arts and crafts, or whatever else you and your body need.

We offer meditation and gentle movement options throughout.

You can join in the community conversation (which is often described as the best part by attendees). Or you can continue to reflect quietly on your own. We value you showing up authentically, just as you are in the moment.

Need a copy of the book?

  1. Get a free copy for you home library! Register using the links below. Then email SFPL Librarian Anissa Malady (anissa.malady@sfpl.org) with your mailing address to request a copy (while supplies last).

  2. Borrow from SFPL or your public library.

  3. Buy from Bookshop.org to support local, independent bookstores. If you click through and make a purchase, you’ll also support TendWell with a commission.

Please join even if you haven’t read or finished the book.

Join TendWell teachers for Gentle Yoga in-person at various SFPL branches. Schedule below.

We'll move mindfully and slowly to soothe the nervous system, stretch the body, and build a little strength and stability along the way.

Please bring a yoga mat if you have one. A limited number will be available to borrow.
