We’re Rooted in our Values

TendWell Collective emerged in 2020 from a desire to create a wellness space with a commitment to equity and a shared set of values. We craved a space that would do better by us as wellness providers, students, and humans. Our Co-founders and Visionaries spent hours upon hours getting to know each other virtually, feeling into our edges, sharing experiences, and dreaming.

What emerged is a set of values that ground us in being accountable to ourselves and our community. They are at the forefront of our organizational model and decision-making. In 2021, we officially opened our digital doors.

Our co-founders are those folks who are still able meet regularly to progress TendWell Collective’s vision, values, and programs. They also do the not-always-exciting but necessary administrative work behind TendWell.

We are a social impact business. We formed an LLC as a container for our work in 2021. We continue to explore alternative structures, including non-profit status and cooperative organization for a future physical dream home.

TendWell Collective is a collaborative project. We are deeply grateful to those who have inspired our work, envisioned this space with us, and contributed their time, energy, and wisdom.

We uplift the work of Values-aligned independent teachers, wellness providers, healers, and studios.

More About Current Core Members

Andrea Stern (she/her)

Who are you?

I am the mother of a wild and courageous boy named Silas, who motivates and encourages me to create a more beautiful and just planet. I also own Satori Yoga Studio formerly in San Francisco’s Financial District. I believe that the benefits of body and breath awareness are essential tools for all human beings. I value vulnerability, passion, creativity, and acceptance.

Favorite food?

Pizza!

Why TendWell?

I spent the last 16 years of my life building a "yoga and meditation business". Now, I am interested in creating a new community that embraces a wider spectrum of humanity. Expanding access is not a controversial concept. It's merely out of alignment with what has ruled our society until now. I am creating a world where the transactional aspect of wellness is no longer the focus.

Favorite place?

Kailua, HI

Emily Hedges (she/her)

Who are you?

I am SF Bay Area born and northern Virginia raised. I’m an auntie, cat mom, and wife. I’m an aerospace/ environmental engineer and clean tech program manager. My super power is showing up. I’m an introvert, bookworm and listener, learning to assume less and ask more and better questions (keyword, learning).

Your love language?

Quality Time (I’m equal parts others but 0% Gifts!)

Why TendWell?

I believe that wellness practices like yoga can transform our relationships with ourselves and each other. And yet there are too many people who have been physically, emotionally, and mentally mistreated by this industry and individuals within it. Too many people think wellness isn’t for them because of [fill in the blank]. I think we can and must do better.

What brings you joy?

Swinging - the rush of air and anticipation for that moment of hang-time.

Reneé Daniel (she/they)

Who are you?

A person who has a really difficult time answering these questions. Lol. I’m a community-oriented grief worker and connector. Big fan of boba, food, and my pets. I love learning and sharing, audiobooks, and quality time with friends.

What’s your favorite animal?

I know it’s not original, but I love my dog! Mica Bean is my everything.

Why TendWell?

I am passionate about combining my love for healing work and social justice. Much of the western wellness world is totally inaccessible. I see TendWell as an opportunity to truly prioritize wellness because we all deserve to be well.

How do you take your coffee/tea?

With oat milk. Everything has to be decaf because caffeine and me do not get along.

Taylor Bowman (she/her)

Who are you?

I was raised in Colorado and call many places home. I am a marriage and family therapist who specializes in Expressive Arts Therapy with kids. I have always had a love for children and the pure curiosity and imaginations that they possess. It’s also a life goal of mine to open an eating disorder treatment center specifically for the BIPOC community.

Favorite color?

Blush! Almost everything in my room is that color or cream :)

Why TendWell?

One of my ultimate goals in life is to cultivate and create spaces where BIPOC and fat bodies are welcome without judgement. My love of moving my body, working with children and being a therapist is what drives me. TendWell is an opportunity for me to work with individuals who are grounded in their values and accept me as I am with what I have to offer the world.

Favorite outdoor activity?

Picnicking!
